Happy Sweet 16 to Mombian!
Mombian is 16 today! A special Sweet 16 thanks to all of you who have read, commented, shared, and otherwise engaged with this site, other readers, and me over the years.

I am thrilled to reveal a project I’ve been working on for months (and in some ways, years): the Mombian Database of LGBTQ Family Books, Media, and More: over 500 books, music albums, movies, games, and toys for and about LGBTQ families. This is not just a booklist: you can search and filter by categories, tags, and more. Want board books with queer dads? Picture books starring Black transgender girls? Memoirs by queer moms about adoption? You can find them, among many other combinations!
Summer is upon us. I’m going to scale back posting frequency a bit (but not entirely!) through August in order to spend more time with my family and work on a few behind-the-scenes projects. I’ll still post a couple of times a week and be on social media. I hope you and your families are able to enjoy something of the summer, too, even in these trying times.
Mombian is 15 years old! Many, many thanks to all of you who have read, commented, and shared your stories with me over the years.
Pride Month is over, my son’s out of school, and summer vacation is upon us. I’m going to scale back posting frequency a bit (but not entirely!) through August in order to recharge and spend more time with my family—but I’ll still post a couple of times a week and be on social media.
Mombian is 14 today! A great big thank you to everyone who’s read, shared, commented, e-mailed, and otherwise engaged with the site, other readers, and me!
It’s the start of a new school year, so Mombian is making a fresh start with a new style! Come and have a look around.Â
Pride Month is over, my son’s out of school, and summer vacation is upon us. I’m going to scale back posting frequency a bit (but not entirely!) for a couple of months in order to recharge and spend more time with my family.
Thirteen years ago, I launched this blog and started writing, hoping to help fill the gap in news and information that sat at the intersection of LGBTQ identity and parenting. Just as parents of newborns have no idea what their children will be like in their teens, I had no idea how the blog would evolve or where it would take me.
One of the perils of parenting is that when my son gets sick, it’s like a train heading down the tracks towards me. I take care of him as best I can (although at 14, he’s pretty self-sufficient) until the train overtakes me. Now I’m down with the same flu-ish fever/cold/sore throat thing he’s had—during February vacation week, no less. (And yes, we had our shots.) Posting will therefore be light for a few days, although I may find the energy to share some stuff on Facebook and Twitter. Please join me—I’m not contagious there!
