The winter season of The Fosters premiered last night, and for me, the first few minutes were the best. I’ll take two moms snuggling in bed anytime. Apparently, so will many others — but creator and producer Bradley Bredeweg is trying to keep a dose of reality in his two-mom romance.
I’m so excited. The Fosters, ABC Family’s drama about two moms and their five kids, returns in its winter premiere Monday at 9 p.m. ET. I’m a big fan of the show, which I think gives us a wonderful, textured look at a lesbian family and means a lot for our community. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come, starting with what happens the day after Stef and Lena’s wedding.
Some good news to start the new year: Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father, Alyssia Abbott’s memoir of growing up in 1970s and 80s San Francisco with her single gay dad, is becoming a feature film directed by Sofia Coppola.
Congratulations to Sherri Saum, who plays lesbian mom Lena Foster on ABC Family’s The Fosters. She and her husband, actor Kamar de los Reyes, are expecting twins! That means there’s one burning question bothering us fans: Will the Fosters’ family grow as Saum’s does?

My only regret heading into the joyous week of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah is that The Fosters doesn’t get a Thanksgiving special this year. The show is on hiatus until mid-January. Next Wednesday (Nov. 20), the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) will premiere the documentary “Growing Up Gayby,” which follows a filmmaker with lesbian moms as she herself interviews “a slew of ‘gaybies’” and right-wing pundits “in an attempt to make sense of what ‘family’ is in the 21st century.”
