Lesbian Swans Return to Boston Public Garden

Led by a brass band, the two swans named “Boston’s most famous waterfowl” will parade to their summer home in the Boston Public Garden today, welcomed by Mayor Tom Menino and other local luminaries. Despite their names—Romeo and Juliet—they are in fact a same-sex female pair who laid eggs and prepared for parenthood together.

The Most Powerful Lesbian Moms in America 2012

How time flies! Out magazine just published its sixth annual “Power List” of the most powerful LGBT people in America, which means it’s time for my (unrelated) sixth annual list of The Most Powerful Lesbian Moms in America.

IKEA Gets to the Root of Family with Inclusive Carrot Toys

Yet another in my occasional but ongoing series on why I love IKEA. This adorable carrot family shows that what matters is love and happiness. The gender of the parents doesn’t matter–or can be imagined to be whatever the child wants them to be.

Lesbian Moms Have Star Trek-Themed Wedding

Because here at Mombian, I’m dedicated to bringing you all the really important news about lesbian moms: This is what happens when you let same-sex couples get hitched—they do so with their own style. Anita Bayliss and Margaret Wood had a Star Trek-themed civil partnership ceremony in Swansea, South Wales, to commemorate their meeting in a

On our vacation last week, my spouse and I played some fierce games of  Scrabble. It’s a long-time habit with us, and we in fact own travel Scrabble sets in at least three different sizes. (Geeks,

The Magic Schoolbus’ New Route

Those of you who have had kids in elementary school will likely know the Magic Schoolbus series. XKCD uses it to make a point about the state of science education: If you’re looking for real science resources for your children, check out Science News for Kids, an online science site for older elementary and middle

The New Yorker Lesbian Mom Cartoon

I’ve been writing Mothers’ (‘s) Day for years (at least as far back as 2007); now the New Yorker makes the punctuation funny in one of its famed cartoons. Let’s not forget, however, that while Heather may have two mommies, Jane may have only one—but she may still be a lesbian. Here’s wishing you a happy day

Most Powerful Lesbian Moms in America 2011

Yes, it’s that time of year again! Out magazine just published its fifth annual list of “The Power 50: The Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America,” which means it’s time for my fifth annual list of The Most Powerful Lesbian Moms in America. The definition of “power” is subjective, of course. For the purposes
