Adopting My Two Dads: A Story About the Leffew Family

A picture book retelling of how the real-life, two-dad Leffew family formed through adoption. It starts with the two men meeting and falling in love, then deciding to become parents. Their social worker plays a part in helping to find “the perfect kids” for them, and we also see them going to a judge to formalize the adoption. The book also shows how they are “not very different” from other families, eating together at the dinner table, for example. They are also religious and go to church on Sundays. At first, however, the law didn’t allow the dads to be married, but when it did, they had “a beautiful and fun ceremony.” There’s a mention of some people “who don’t understand how children can have two dads,” immediately followed by their son’s comment that “this is very silly.”
