Families Like Mine: Children of Gay Parents Tell It Like It Is

An older (2004) but still very thoughtful and useful synthesis of stories and insights from children of gay and lesbian parents. Author Abigail Garner highlights two major points that have stuck with me through my parenting: First, that many children of queer parents see themselves as “culturally queer” (a term coined by Stefan Lynch, the first director of COLAGE), regardless of their personal identities; and second, that children with gay and lesbian (and by extension, LGBTQ) parents may have their own process of coming out about their families. Highly recommended.
