Thirteen-year-old Lilla has always felt different—quiet and shy, and unlike her older sister, not interested in boys. While visiting her aunt in Italy, however, she finds a book of magic and discovers that she is a witch with the magic of “Strega.” As she learns more about her powers, she also realizes that an ancient witch named Stregamama poses a dire threat. Lilla must not only master her witchly skills, but also accept who she is in many ways. An older queer woman offers a thoughtful role model as Lilla comes out and finds the strength to confront all that she faces.
