Rainbow Bops

Kids’ music duo AJ Pop has created a fun and bouncy album that captures the energy and feelings of Pride with songs about family diversity, being yourself, LGBTQ heroes, and of course, Pride parades.

Many of the songs have a clear pedagogical bent, such as “Families,” where they sing:

No one family is better
Love is all that matters
There are many kinds of families
Some of us have two dads
Some of us have two moms
Some have one of each
Some of us have one

but the beats are infectious and it’s not a bad way to learn. My only suggestion is that while there is a song (“Be You”) that mentions nonbinary identities, it would have been great if the “Families” song mentioned nonbinary babas, maddys, or mapas (or parents by any other names), not just moms and dads. Still, this is a celebratory album full of positivity, great for Pride or anytime you want a little extra pride in your life.
