They, He, She: Words for You and Me

A bright board book that introduces readers to a number of children, what they like to do, and the various pronouns they use, including they/them and ze/zir. One child prefers no pronouns, just a name. The children represent a range of racial/ethnic identities and physical abilities.

The book includes a nonbreakable mirror and asks readers to think about which words feel best for them. A one-page note at the end explains a little more about pronouns, also reinforcing the message that it’s up to each person to decide which words fit them best, and encouraging them to share these words with new friends.

Illustrations by the prolific Andy Passchier are as cheery as always.

Simple but inclusive.
