A look at the news over the past few weeks leaves no doubt that abortion rights are under attack. This makes a new book for teens about abortion rights and reproductive justice a superbly timely and important read. Even better, it’s by a queer mom whose other books you may have read!
It’s only surprising if you weren’t paying attention. The Trump administration let slip last week that they are considering two paths to allowing discrimination against LGBTQ people and others in adoption and foster care, following up on what they’ve intended for a long time.
This Memorial Day, may we spare a thought for all those who have given their lives in service to our country, including service members who were LGBTQ.
It’s just going to be a week of LGBTQ kids’entertainment news, and I’m okay with that. Streaming service Hulu has announced the premiere of The Bravest Knight, the first mainstream children’s television series that centers a family with same-sex parents. Watch a trailer here!
Even as mainstream children’s shows like PBS Kids’ Arthur are starting to show LGBTQ characters, independent efforts are still striving to provide quality LGBTQ-inclusive content for kids. One new effort is All Together Now!, a queer animated kid’s show about “a community of people with different gender identities, body types, abilities, family structures, and cultural backgrounds.”
Alabama Public Television is refusing to show an episode of the beloved show Arthur on PBS Kids because it depicts two male characters getting married. Contact them to let them know how you feel!

Not only does today mark the 15th anniversary of the landmark decision that first brought marriage equality to a U.S. state, and the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, but it will now also be known as the day a comprehensive, federal LGBTQ civil rights bill first passed a chamber of the U.S. Congress and the day that Taiwan legalized marriage for same-sex couples—the first country in Asia to do so. Progress to celebrate—but there is further to go, as the Equality Act faces a tougher battle in the Senate, and same-sex couples in Taiwan still will not have equal adoption rights.
