This older (2001) book by two developmental psychologists who are also co-parenting two children covers a variety of topics, including the transition to parenthood; changes in the relationship with one’s partner; explaining to children what it means to be a lesbian; talking with family, doctors, teachers, and other professionals about one’s family; helping children respond to teasing or intrusive questions; gender identity, gender stereotypes, and male role models; breakup and divorce; stepfamilies; and explaining assisted reproduction and adoption to children. While some of the information may now be dated (particularly the additional books, organizations, and resources listed), some of the core concepts about inclusion and explaining our families to children feel like throughlines that are still relevant.
