The third novel in author Yoon Ha Lee’s Thousand Worlds space opera series, this one is told from the alternating perspectives of Min, the fox spirit, and Sebin the tiger spirit (who is nonbinary). Along with Haneul the dragon spirit, they are hoping to support the peace talks between the Thousand Worlds and the Sun Clans nations—but then the space station where the talks are happening explodes, and the three, plus Min’s ghost brother Jun, are stranded on a dangerous planet claimed by both sides. Each faces personal and interpersonal challenges as they attempt to harness both their human and supernatural powers towards the common goal of survival.
Set against the sweeping backdrop of both ancient myths and futuristic space travel, this conclusion to the series is again an imaginative novel with both action and heart.
