An updated edition of Jacinta Bunnell’s groundbreaking 2004 coloring book, this one contains all-new illustrations by a variety of artists showing children of all genders breaking stereotypes about what to wear, think, and do.
The book is aimed at “people of any age,” and some of the vocabulary and concepts (e.g., going on strike) might go over the youngest readers’ heads, so the book is probably best read with an adult, at least on first go-through. Nevertheless, messages like “We’ll decide for ourselves what girls can be” and “There’s more to being boys than what they told us,” offer important lessons for readers of all ages, as do the images of children wearing gender-expansive clothing and people of all genders asserting their right to be who they are. A variety of discussion questions provide impetus for further conversation.
Illustrations by Giselle Potter, Nicole Georges, Kristine Virsis, Simi Stone, Jacinta Bunnell, Nicole Rodrigues, Richard Wentworth, and more.
