With silly, bouncing rhymes and bold illustrations heavy on pink, purple, and blue, this delightful book celebrates self-expression and ability regardless of gender. “Guinea pigs don’t wear pants. It would slow their hurried scurry,” it tells us. “And llamas don’t wear lipstick. Their lips are far too furry.” Other animals, too, are limited in what they can wear or do, as we see across the hilariously imagined pages—but human children aren’t, and can wear and do a whole host of things, “No matter if you’re a boy or girl, other or in-between,” it concludes, you are special and “anything’s for you!”
Author/illustrator Chris Paul Farias has created a pitch-perfect title that conveys its important message with humor and heart. The animal characters are amusingly inept, while the human children are empowered and happy—they include one who reads as a boy, one who reads as a girl, and another who seems intended to be a gender creative boy or nonbinary child, with short hair and a skirt.
The book would make a perfect read-aloud, whether at a drag storytime, home, or other location. It’s highly entertaining and highly recommended.
