Lucy, who was adopted by a mom and a dad, wants to opt out of her school’s family tree assignment because she thinks her family is too “different.” Her parents gently suggest that she look more closely at her classmates’ families, all of which are different in varying ways. One has two moms. In the end, Lucy creates a family tree celebrating both her past and present.
