In this sequel to Estranged (spoilers to Estranged follow), changeling Edmund Carter has stopped pretending to be human and has assumed his rightful role as Cinder, king of the World Below, though not all of the fae welcome his return.
Ed, the human who had been swapped with Cinder/Edmund, has now left the fae World Below for the World Above. His birth family is kind, but Ed yearns for a sense of purpose.
When magic starts to disappear in the World Below, however, Cinder and Ed must reunite, along with their older sister, Alexis, to combat this new threat. But their quest to do so reveals a shocking family secret….
Ethan Aldridge skillfully continues the character arcs begun in Changeling and introduces some new ones, including a male character whom Cinder develops a crush on. The artwork is again striking and immersive, making this in all ways a worthy sequel.
