The Daddy Machine

A sister and brother both love their two moms, and the feeling is mutual, but one day, the brother suggests that it would also be fun to have a dad. When the mothers go out one day, leaving the kids a construction set to play with, they build a machine that can make them a dad. Problem is, it doesn’t stop making them, and soon they have a roomful. With a little help from the dads themselves, they figure out how to solve the problem and the dads disappear back into the machine, until the last two dads tell them they’ve decided to move in next door. The moms return, and the children innocently tell them they’ve made friends with the new neighbors.

The rhymes are rather awkward in this older book, but it is an amusing tale that could still help facilitate conversations if children with two moms express interest in dads. The story conveys that a family with two moms is just right for these children—but that there’s nothing wrong with having male role models next door.
