In the third installment of this trilogy, Aster Vanissen, who has defied his family’s gender norms by practicing witchcraft, is looking forward to competing in the witchcraft competition at the family’s Midwinter Festival. His friend Ariel, however, a ward of the Vanissens, is bothered by strange dreams that hint at truths about her past and sow doubt about her acceptance by the family.
When a dark force invades the festival, Aster, Ariel, and friend Charlie must once again work together to defeat it.
Charming drawings, diverse characters, and thoughtful themes make this a winner—and for bonus queerness, Ariel and Charlie (who is a girl) seem to be developing feelings for each other, and we meet Charlie’s two dads.
