This deck-building card game is based on the world and characters of Katie O’Neill’s Tea Dragon trilogy. While there is not any obvious LGBTQ content in the game, it does include queer characters from the books, whom readers will recognize. Fans of the books will likely love this game, which uses the same adorable art and lets them care for their very own tea dragons!
Each player builds a deck around their chosen tea dragon over the course of four seasons. On each turn, players either draw or buy cards that trigger various effects, boost their deck, or score points. All of the information for these effects is right on the cards themselves, making the game easy to learn and minimizing references to the rulebook after an initial read. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. While players compete over certain types of cards, they do not take actions that directly harm other players, making this a competitive but friendly game, in keeping with the tone of the books.
The publisher rates it for ages 10 and up.
