A rhyming poem from parent to child, this board book asserts:
You are my rainbow.
You brighten every day
with your dazzling colors
in so very many ways.
Each spread then uses a color of the rainbow as a jumping-off point to describe a facet of the child’s life, including green for new beginnings, blue for sad days, yellow for joy, and of course, red for love. The images show families and children diverse in many ways; they include a two-mom and a two-dad family, a mom-dad family, a child with a single dad, and one where two grandmothers are putting a child to bed. (It’s unclear if the grandmothers are a couple or from opposite sides of the family; read them as you wish.) The final message, to “love your colors” and “Share them with the world” is sweet and affirming, making this a recommended title.
