As a Jew and as a human, I have been saddened and angered today by the awful shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. And I wonder at the unending number of shootings in a country that is supposed to be a beacon of freedom and justice and ask myself: When will we have had enough?

Pennsylvania’s Physician General, Dr. Rachel Levine, will keynote Philadelphia Family Pride’s 6th Annual Family Matters Conference for LGBTQ parented-families on October 17th. There are lots of other fun and informative family events planned for the day, too!

Not one, but two states have gained marriage equality this week, as Pennsylvania today joined Oregon. And lest anyone feel that U.S. District Court Judge Michael McShane’s ruling in the Oregon case was influenced by the fact that he is a gay dad, consider that straight U.S. District Court Judge John E. Jones III, who ruled in Pennsylvania, was appointed by President George W. Bush and backed by anti-LGBT Senator Rick Santorum (R).
Last week saw more moves towards marriage equality, and once again, lesbian moms were in the forefront.
Not news per se, but the Victory Fund has put together a nice video of LGBT women in politics. Another big week: President Obama “is under pressure to engage on a variety of gay issues that are coming to the fore” reports the New York Times.
