“The Fosters” 2nd Season Starts Tonight: Here’s Why I’m Excited

The Fosters, ABC Family’s two-mom, many kid drama, begins its second season tonight, and I can hardly wait. Here are some of the thoughts I had on the first season and what it means for us real LGBTQ families — as well as a sneak peek of tonight’s scene in which Jude gets his birth certificate.

Watch: The Fosters Summer Premiere Trailer

It’s in the 40s here in the Boston area and barely feels like spring, much less summer. Here’s the trailer for The Fosters summer premiere, though, to put a little warmth in your day.

The Fosters Ends 1st Season with Love and Surprises

The Fosters, ABC Family’s acclaimed drama about lesbian moms Stef and Lena and their growing multi-ethnic family, ended its first season last night with a joyous adoption and some unexpected plot twists (which I won’t mention in case any of you haven’t seen it yet). The episode was full of both the teen and lesbian mom drama we’ve come to expect — my only criticism is that we have to wait till June 16 for more. The show’s marketing team, however, let a little bit slip about what to expect in 84 days when Season Two begins.

We’ve All Had Days Like Stef and Lena

I can’t help posting this photo of Stef and Lena from ABC Family’s The Fosters. They look like they’re having one of those days we’ve all had as parents. Please join me tonight at 9 p.m. ET on Twitter to live tweet with the hashtags #TheFosters and #gaydybunch, and rejoice in the fact that we have these two as role models, through the ups and the downs of parenting.

Trans Parent, Trans Kid Come to Our Screens

Transparent, a new half-hour drama from Jill Soloway (United States of Tara, Six Feet Under), centers around a transgender parent who is just beginning to transition and come out to family members. But an even more impressive portrayal of a trans character right now may be that of trans teen Cole on The Fosters.

Sneak Peek: The Fosters’ Lena and Stef Share a Difficult Moment

Being in a marriage means dealing with the hard times as well as the good. Watch Stef and Lena of The Fosters (Teri Polo and Sherri Saum) prepare for Stef’s father’s funeral and discuss what to do about foster daughter Callie’s relationship with their son Brandon. Leaving aside the specifics of their problems, can you relate to their overall struggles with family and parenting?

“The Fosters” Season Begins with Two-Mom Snuggle

The winter season of The Fosters premiered last night, and for me, the first few minutes were the best. I’ll take two moms snuggling in bed anytime. Apparently, so will many others — but creator and producer Bradley Bredeweg is trying to keep a dose of reality in his two-mom romance.

The Morning After the Fosters’ Wedding

I’m so excited. The Fosters, ABC Family’s drama about two moms and their five kids, returns in its winter premiere Monday at 9 p.m. ET. I’m a big fan of the show, which I think gives us a wonderful, textured look at a lesbian family and means a lot for our community. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come, starting with what happens the day after Stef and Lena’s wedding.

More Kids for “The Fosters” Family

Congratulations to Sherri Saum, who plays lesbian mom Lena Foster on ABC Family’s The Fosters. She and her husband, actor Kamar de los Reyes, are expecting twins! That means there’s one burning question bothering us fans: Will the Fosters’ family grow as Saum’s does?

A Little Fosters Family for the Holiday

My only regret heading into the joyous week of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah is that The Fosters doesn’t get a Thanksgiving special this year. The show is on hiatus until mid-January. To tide you over until then, however, here’s an extended trailer for next season. I love the bit with Stef and Lena snuggling at about
