Today is Transgender Parent Day, a time to celebrate and honor transgender parents! For today and any day, here are some great picture books and middle grade titles that star kids with trans parents. I wish all transgender parents a day full of love and happiness, and many more to come.

First Olympian to Come Out as a Trans Man Credits His Child for Inspiration

Australian rugby player Ellia Green has come out as a trans man, the first Olympian to do so. The 2016 gold medalist and his wife also have an infant daughter, whom he credits as an inspiration for being open about himself. Click through to read more and see more photos of this loving family!

“If You’re a Kid Like Gavin” Powerfully Tells Trans Activist’s Story

Gavin Grimm successfully fought his high school in federal court for the right to use the boy’s bathroom like the boy he is. To write a picture book about his experience, he teamed up with Kyle Lukoff, a two-time Stonewall Award winner, Newbery honoree, former children’s librarian, and also a trans man. I can think of no better pairing. Together with illustrator J Yang, they’ve given us a must-read book for readers of all identities.

The latest episode of the award-winning Story Pirates podcast features a story about a transgender prince who decides to live as his true self. The story, originally by a 10-year-old girl, was brought to life by an all trans/nonbinary cast. Listen here.

Transgender activist Gloria Allen (Mama Gloria), who founded and ran a charm school for homeless trans youth and was the subject of the award-winning documentary “Mama Gloria” and the critically acclaimed play “Charm,” has died at the age of 76.
