I’ve just added the 400th link to the Mombian Resource Directory for LGBT Parents, and thought that was worth a minor celebration. Topics in the Directory include starting a family, raising children (both LGBT-specific sites and general, but LGBT-friendly, sites), LGBT politics and law, online and offline groups and forums for LGBT parents, and much more.
I’ll be the first to admit, though, that there are probably gaps in my coverage of some topics. My focus has been on sites for lesbian moms, since that’s what I know best, but I hope to increase the number of sites for GBT parents, as well as local and international sites. There may be other topics I’ve skipped completely. This is where you come in. I want the Directory to be built from our collective wisdom, not just my own knowledge and interests. If there are sites you think should be added, please click the Submit New Bookmarks link in the Directory, and enter your ideas. I’ll create additional categories as needed, including ones for various states and countries.
Link submissions are moderated in order to prevent malicious submission of links that don’t belong. I’m also retaining final editorial control so I can weed out stale links, duplicate information, and links that are too far afield from LGBT parenting topics. In general, though, I want to be as inclusive as possible.
If you register on the site, you’ll be able to rate the links on a scale of one to five. The system will average everyone’s ratings to determine the overall favorites. You’ll also be able to create a private list of sites that will appear only to you. Finally, if you register, you’ll have the option to sign up for the new Mombian Monthly Newsletter. This is an e-mail newsletter I’ll send towards the end of each month, with highlights from Mombian blog posts as well as some newsletter-only content.
Thanks to those who have already submitted links. I hope the Directory becomes ever more useful for us and our families.
