Bacon and Eggs: Update from the Family Pride Coalition

Easter EggOver the last week or so, I asked you to help the Family Pride Coalition meet a charity challenge from actor Kevin Bacon. I’m pleased to report they met the challenge, and will receive $10,000 from Bacon’s Sixdegrees organization. They also exceeded their goal of 1,138 donations, racking up $30,000 on top of Bacon’s $10,000. Thanks to those of my readers who contributed (though I don’t have any way of knowing who you are).

The money will help fund activities such as arranging a contingent of LGBT families to attend the White House Egg Roll this Sunday, and managing the media attention this is sure to garner. If you’re interested in attending as part of the Family Pride contingent, you can sign up via their Web site. (I’ll also add, for readers who come from the Jewish tradition, like me, that if the White House held a public seder I’m sure Family Pride would be there, too, sporting rainbow-colored yarmulkes. In the absence of such, though, I’ll support the Egg Roll.)

If you are visiting from outside the DC area, be sure to read my post on family-friendly places and events in DC, especially the lengthy comment from April, who knows the area better than I do.

  1. If you have a specific question about DC, post it here or send it to Dana and I’ll be happy to answer it as best I can. DC in the spring is absolutely gorgeous.
