LGBT Parenting Roundup

A few stories from round and about:

  • There have been lots of stories about yesterday’s California marriage hearing, but this one in the Pasadena Star-News quotes lesbian mom Erin Lindsay, who was also the first participant in my Family Voices series. (Stay tuned for more Family Voices coming soon.)
  • The U.S. recently signed the Hague Adoption Convention, which “protects children and families against unregulated adoption risks and issues involving intercountry adoption.” Sounds good on the surface, but Charlsie Dewey of the Windy City Times explains why this also means fewer foreign adoption options for LGBT families.
  • Yet another same-sex couple has been blocked from adopting from a state foster-care system because they are unmarried but cohabitating. This time, it’s two gay men in Kentucky.
  • On a more positive note, InsideBayArea discusses lesbian motherhood, focusing on the perspective of the non-biological mothers. Among the moms profiled is Jaime Jenett, who started a support group in Berkeley for “Other Mothers.”
  • The recent New York ruling that said the state must recognize marriages of same-sex couples from elsewhere will have both tangible and intangible benefits for couples with kids, explains Keith Eddings at LoHud.com, in an article profiling three LGBT families.
  • The always-insightful Deb Price explains why Schools Must Grow More Gay Friendly.
