Helen and I bring you this week’s video in 3D! Well, sort of. But we do discuss how Disney’s Toy Story holds up with another dimension, and what we think of the Mouse House’s new foray into nature films. We also go underwater with Kate Winslet, in a manner of speaking. (Thankfully, it has nothing to do with the Titanic.) Plus, how to get fall yardwork done by bribing your kids.
(If the embedded video above doesn’t work, try it at Dailymotion.)

My partner and I are avid disc golfers and hiking around disc golf courses are a tremendous amount of fun for our almost four year old. This has been the first year that we have taken him out onto the course with us. We don’t often finish all 18 holes, and it takes longer than usual, but we have many more discoveries along the way. Some more typical ones are bugs/worms/berries/rivers/lakes, etc. Last weekend however, we lucked out as we spied a horned owl swoop down and catch a squirrel only about 30 feet away from us. It was amazing and we all watched with rapt attention for about 15 minutes while the owl wrangled the squirrel (just far enough away to not be too gory, thankfully). After the owl composed itself it took flight to a nearby tree, the lifeless squirrel body dangling down from its talons. Unbelievable! And yes, our son has his own disc and loves to toss it off the tee and into the baskets.
Oh, that sounds fun. I’m not sure where the nearest disc golf course is, but I’m sure there’s a Web site that would tell us. Seems like you really lucked out with the wildlife, though, on your adventure.
Hello Dana and Helen,
I am not sure if this the right place to leave a comment but I just wanted to say Thank You for this wonderful site. I am a mother of a young daughter and just left a nine-year (heterosexual) marriage. I accepted my sexual orientation after years of marriage and knew I had to change my life. But I really don’t know any lesbians and have never met anyone who represents what I want for myself…….until I found your website a few days ago. It is really touching to see the two of you dote on the daily adventures of your young son. Thank You, Val
Val–Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m humbled that our weekly ramblings have made such an impact. Best wishes for your ongoing journey.
