Family Profiles
- Lesbian mom Heather Aimee O’Neill writes at Salon about her son coming out as straight.
- Vikki at Up Popped a Fox, in “The Days Are Paper Thin,” writes of her son’s insight and one of those unforgettable moments of parenting.
- A new exhibit at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute features photographs of lesbian couples and families living in the Deep South. (Article and video at HuffPo.)
Law and Politics
- The White House will be holding an “LGBT Conference on Families” in Minnesota on April 28, in partnership with the Family Equality Council.
- Maryland family lawyer Dawn Elaine Bowie looks at “Gay Dads and Divorce” in The Washington Blade.
- The Inter-American Court of Human Rights overturned a decision of Chile’s Supreme Court and said that Karen Atala, a judge and lesbian mom, did not have to give up her children and give custody to their father. The Supreme Court had earlier upheld a lower court ruling that Atala must do so because she is a lesbian.
- A national referendum in Slovenia rejected a new family law that would have allowed people in same-sex relationships to adopt the biological children of their partners.
