What makes a family? Most of us know in our hearts. Thanks to the Pride Foundation for tweeting to remind us of this short but powerful video by lesbian mom Jen Finkle-Weaver that offers her perspective on the question.
The video was made back in 2010, but still resonates. I especially like Jen’s acknowledgement that her daughter Ella’s story about having a two-mom family is Ella’s own, and not the same as Jen’s. Gotta love parents that encourage children to find their own paths and voices.
Taking a broader view, I think the video has renewed significance because Jen and her family live in Washington State. Washington is one of the four states facing marriage equality ballot measures this November. Jen reminds us of yet another reason why going to the polls next month will matter.
