Colorado Passes Civil Unions Bill; Lesbian Moms Again in Spotlight

colorado_flagThe Colorado House followed the state Senate yesterday in passing a civil unions bill, which the governor has said he will sign. An AP photo of lesbian moms Fran and Anna Simon tops the CBS News report on the occasion; and a photo of the Simons and their son is part of this gallery at HuffPo.

The couple have been called “the de facto face of the civil unions debate in Colorado,” but I’d guess that even they would be quick to acknowledge they are only a few of the many individuals who made this happen. Congratulations to everyone who helped (and on to full marriage equality)!

Good news yesterday, too, from Minnesota, where a marriage equality bill advanced in both the state House and Senate, bringing it to the floor in both chambers. The floor votes could still be some months away, reports LGBTQ Nation, although they say optimistically that same-sex couples could marry as early as August.
