As legislation moves forward in the U.S. House that would allow adoption and foster care agencies nationwide to discriminate against LGBTQ parents and youth, among others, and 10 states already permit this, Human Rights Watch has released a new five-minute video showing why we should fight this legislation that would limit the number of loving homes for children.
In the video, Chris and CJ Phippin discuss their rejection by several foster care agencies in Texas and Tennessee before they found one that would work with them. Their friend, Tanya Baker, shares that she was raised with a strict Church of Christ background that taught her “being gay is wrong.” In talking with Chris, her colleague, about his struggles with foster care agencies, she came to realize “It’s about the kids.” She’s now the godmother to two of Chris and CJ’s sons.
