Film Company Seeking Stories of Becoming a Mother

A film production company whose roster includes Academy Award-winning directors is working on a Mother’s Day web video about how technology—from online calendars to reproductive medicine—helps us along the many paths to motherhood. They’re looking for stories. Have one to share?

Nonfiction Unlimited is a documentary production company that works with filmmakers such as Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, who just won an Academy Award for Free Solo, on advertising and branded content. (The company didn’t have anything to do with Free Solo, but works with the pair on other projects.) Iliana Carter, a casting associate for the company, wrote to tell me:

We’re currently working on a very special Mother’s Day web video that aims to normalize the many different entryways to motherhood by telling the stories of real women and their journeys.

We’re looking for real stories of diverse women from all walks of life who are using or who used technology to help coordinate the logistics of having a child. We’d like to speak with people who would be interested in sharing their stories to inspire and support other women. We are looking for a multitude of stories, including ovulation tracking, IVF, surrogacy, adoption and others.

The application form further clarifies that they’re not just looking for folks who used assisted reproduction, but those who used any kind of technology to manage the process of becoming a parent, “from doctor visits and exams, to calendars and reminders of IVF protocols, to mountains of adoption paperwork, and tons of research into surrogacy.”

If you are interested in being considered for this video, please fill out this form. (I am not personally involved in the project; just passing along the information.) Please leave a comment if you do end up part of the film!
