Modern Baby, produced by ABC News, shares Sarah and Yessie’s story along with those of three different-sex couples. The two women had been married for six years when they first attempted to start a family through in vitro fertilization. They decided that Yessie would try to get pregnant first since she is six years older. Three years later, however, after three unsuccessful attempts including one failed pregnancy, they switched and Sarah tried to conceive. She succeeded.

In the show, they talk about what motivated them to choose their sperm donor, their feelings after Yessie lost her pregnancy, and how the experience impacted their own relationship. Sarah’s mom also makes an appearance. The film follows them through the birth of their child and into the early days of parenthood.

The stories of the three different-sex couples are moving, too, although I won’t detail them here—while some parts of their journeys are of necessity different from those of a two-woman couple, other parts will resonate for anyone who has or is going through infertility.

Watch Modern Baby in its entirety below, and read more about the families in the film in this ABC News piece.
