Help Leading Researcher with New Study of LGBTQ Parenting

One of the leading researchers of LGBTQ families is conducting an online study in preparation for a new book for and about LGBTQ parents and prospective parents, and needs your help. If you identify as LGBTQ+ and have at least one child 18 years old or younger, please consider answering a short, anonymous survey so that as many identities and perspectives as possible are represented.

Dr. Abbie Goldberg is a professor of psychology at Clark University and has been studying LGBTQ families for 20 years. Her books include Lesbian and Gay Parents and Their Children: Research on the Family Life Cycle (2010); Gay Dads: Transitions to Adoptive Fatherhood (2012); LGBT-Parent Families: Innovations in Research and Implications for Practice (2013); Open Adoption and Diverse Families (2019), and several others, along with numerous papers on many aspects of LGBTQ families and individuals. Such works, done with both academic rigor and respect, can be invaluable for psychologists and other professionals working with LGBTQ families. (And simply as a queer parent, I’ve found them fascinating as well.)

Her new study, she told me in an online message, will “inform the creation of a book for LGBTQ parents and parents to be, drawing from a large and diverse sample of parents to hopefully render more useful and relevant guidance.”

The study should take about 20 minutes. It’s anonymous and you may skip any questions you do not wish to answer. If you wish, at the end, you’ll be taken to a second, completely separate link to be entered into a drawing for one of 30 $25 Amazon gift cards and/or to receive information about study findings. Take the survey and learn more here—then pass along the link to anyone else you know who may be interested.
