Tune in Tonight: “Protecting Our Families: LGBTQ+ Parents Town Hall”

If you’re an LGBTQ parent or prospective parent, you don’t want to miss tonight’s virtual town hall from five leading LGBTQ and policy organizations about protecting our families.

Protecting Our Families: LGBTQ+ Parents Town Hall will be hosted tonight, June 26th, 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT, by COLAGE, Family Equality, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), Movement Advancement Project (MAP), and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR). They say:

Outdated family laws and an increasingly hostile national climate are leaving many LGBTQ+ parents with questions about the security of their family relationships.

Join this free online town hall to hear from LGBTQ+ family advocates about the state of parentage laws around the U.S., what legal steps you can take to protect your relationship to your children, and what our community can do to ensure equality and security for children and families.

As regular readers here will know, MAP recently published an important new report about the patchwork state of parentage laws in the U.S. that leave children at risk. GLAD and I have also just created a guide to help LGBTQ parents and prospective parents better understand the various paths available for securing your parentage. (If you think being on your child’s birth certificate is enough, it’s not. And if you don’t know about newer options for LGBTQ parents in some states, like confirmatory adoptions and voluntary acknowledgments of parentage, you might want to learn.) Words on paper only go so far, though. Tonight’s Town Hall is your chance to hear directly from the experts and to ask questions.

The event is free, but you’ll need to RSVP. I hope to see you there!
