Kyle Lukoff is a two-time Stonewall Award winner, Newbery Award Honoree, and a former children’s librarian who has given voice to many transgender and other queer characters in his books for kids—and now you can ask him questions for an upcoming virtual Q & A hosted by OurShelves!
For this upcoming virtual event with Kyle, I’m thrilled to partner with OurShelves, which curates diverse subscription book boxes for children ages 0 to 8. (Here’s the interview I did with founder Alli Harper if you’d like to know more.)
Kyle’s books include the picture books When Aidan Became a Brother, If You’re a Kid Like Gavin, Awake, Asleep, the Max and Friends series, the recent There’s No Such Thing as Vegetables, and the middle grade novels Too Bright to See and Different Kinds of Fruit. His books are always thoughtful and often hilarious (especially Vegetables), and show the LGBTQ characters in the fullness of their lives, not simply as representations of their LGBTQ identities. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person once when he was doing a reading nearby, and can confirm that he’s also a delightful person.
There’s lots you could ask him, from how he develops his ideas to whether he’s really obsessed with produce.
Submit your questions for Kyle here by May 19 May 27 [updated with extended deadline]. He’ll answer them in a video and we’ll let you know when it’s available for viewing.
