World’s Largest T-Rex Skull Now on Display

This one’s for all you moms with dinosaur-obsessed offspring. Increase your cool factor in their eyes by telling them the world’s largest Tyrannosaurus rex skull is now on display at the Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University. (Thanks to PhysOrg.com for the sighting. Photos available through both links above.)

Rosie’s Family Snooze: But In a Good Way

I spent the better part of this evening watching All Aboard: Rosie’s Family Cruise, the HBO documentary about the maiden voyage of Rosie’s all-are-welcome cruise venture. I admit to mixed feelings about the show.

Shameless Diversions

OK, in partial recompense for the long political rant, I’ll point you to AfterEllen.com, where you can read up on the latest lesbian celebrity gossip. You know you want to. For those of you seeking a more humorous diversion, try After Ellen’s sister pubilcation, Fake Gay News. (Warning: Heavy satire. Not for the easily offended.)

“All Aboard: Rosie’s Family Cruise” Documentary

Rosie O’Donnell and her partner Kelli Carpenter O’Donnell are premiering their documentary, “All Aboard: Rosie’s Family Cruise,” on April 6. The program, which will air on HBO, looks at the first cruise of the couple’s travel venture, R Family Vacations. (Full credit: The couple founded the company with friend Gregg Kaminsky.) Books About Music

My son loves music, and he loves books. I’m always excited, therefore, when I can find books about music for the pre-school age group. A modern (1995) classic, Caldecott winner Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin, by Lloyd Moss is a gem. One by one, the book introduces various instruments, as each lends its sound to

Oscar Night: At Least We Have the Penguins

Well, Brokeback Mountain didn’t win Best Picture last night, but at least March of the Penguins won Best Documentary. The tux-clad birds seem to be morphing from right-wing ideals to gay icons. Let’s also not forget that Ang Lee did win Best Director for Brokeback, and Philip Seymour Hoffman won Best Actor for his portrayal

Book on Male Penguin Parents Removed from Children’s Section

Concerns about “homosexual undertones” in the children’s book And Tango Makes Three caused two public libraries to move it from the children’s to the non-fiction section. The book, about two male penguins who adopt an abandoned egg, is based on the true story of two penguins at the New York Central Park Zoo. Heaven forbid

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

It’s Dr. Seuss’ birthday today! One of the best parts about being a mom is that I can now spout off entire books by Theodore Seuss Geisel at the drop of a hat (with or without cat). John at Blogging Baby (who first brought this day to my attention) says his favorite Seuss book is

The L Word: Upcoming Books

No politics in this post. I promise. The L Word is spawning a pair of books this spring. The L Word : Welcome to Our Planet is an “official guide” to the show, with interviews, photos, peeks “behind the scenes,” and a ranking of sex scenes. Reading The L Word : Outing Contemporary Television looks

Winter Olympics

A little off-topic, but I dare say I’m not the only dyke looking forward to the Winter Olympics that start tomorrow. While the sports I personally play tend not to involve ice and snow (though I’ve been known to cross-country ski on occasion), I’m still going to be glued to the TV for two weeks.
