Big Bold Beautiful Me: A Story That’s Loud and Proud and Celebrates You!

Each of the children in this uplifting, rhyming book is proud of their physical traits—big feet, thick thighs, broad shoulders, long arms, curly hair—although they say other kids may point them out and tease them. Each knows, however, that their bodies can help them jump, stand strong, and do other positive things. “I look in the mirror–and what do I see?/Big and bold and beautiful me!” concludes each child.

There is no stated LGBTQ inclusion here, but the child with the long arms has an asymmetrical haircut that reads as queer, possibly nonbinary or trans. I’m therefore tagging this book as having those identities, so people seeking such representation can evaluate it for themselves.

The children are also diverse in skin tone.

An empowering book of body positivity.
