Families Grow

A simple board book that shows how all families begin with a wish, which becomes a baby in a belly. Obviously, that leaves out some details, but the point of this book is the emotions, not the mechanics. “The belly might belong to Mom, But also it may not,” we learn, “Sometimes another special belly is the perfect spot,” a nice nod to families formed in various ways (but in both cases showing pregnant people who read as women). Definitions at the end like “pregnancy” and “womb,” however, are written to be inclusive of all genders. We also learn that sometimes a child might make “stops along the way” before meeting their parents, implying fostering or adoption. A two-mom family is among those shown.

Simple but cheery and sweet.
