The Sissy Duckling

Elmer the duckling prefers to decorate cookies, likes building sand castles instead of forts, and would rather put on puppet shows than play sports. He’s happy doing what he loves, although he’s bullied by other boy ducklings and his father doesn’t understand him. He finally has had enough, and runs away from home—only to discover that his father has been shot by a hunter. It’s up to Elmer to carry his father home and care for him, where his dad learns that Elmer has a different kind of courage, but courage nonetheless. Not explicitly LGBTQ inclusive, but this story by actor Harvey Fierstein reflects the experiences of some young LGBTQ people.
