The adventures of Frank the cat and Sunny the corgi (who have two human dads) continue in this second volume of the fun chapter book series. In this volume, Frank gets a crush on a mysterious masked “cat” (really a raccoon) whom he sees pawing through the household garbage cans.
Sunny and visiting parrot Cap’n Keith try to help Frank connect with his crush—but hilarious disaster results. Along the way, Frank comes to realize the different ways you can love family, friends, and crushes. The story never takes itself too seriously, but there’s a delightful chemistry among the three animal protagonists.
The two dads are shown briefly, but don’t play a large part in the tale.
Although I tend to prefer books that show LGBTQ parents with human children, this story is entertainingly told and a recommended book for emerging independent readers.
