Today is Spirit Day, GLAAD’s annual event to speak out against anti-LGBTQ bullying and stand with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment. Our nation’s leader continues to set an example of a bully in action, making events like Spirit Day—and the actions they can inspire all year long—more critical than ever.

Spirit Day: Can a Color Stop a Bully?

Today is Spirit Day, a time to take a stand against bullying and show support for LGBTQ youth. Not all LGBTQ youth are bullied, of course, and not all victims of bullies are LGBTQ — but anti-LGBTQ harassment is still pervasive, even if things are slowly getting better.

Show Your Family Pride on Instagram

Keeping the Pride Month festivities rolling, GLAAD and Instagram just launched #PridePortraits, a new photo campaign that encourages people to post photos of what LGBT pride means to them. Just post a photo to Instagram with the using hashtag #PridePortraits, and you can also get a chance to win behind-the-scenes access to NYC Pride, including exclusive access to the Dance on the Pier featuring a performance by Demi Lovato. Those of us with kids of a certain age could earn “Coolest Parent of the Year” status for that.

Share Your Family’s Holiday Card with Governors of Anti-Equality States

This holiday season, GLAAD is organizing a campaign to help both LGBT families and allies send a copy of their family’s holiday card to the governors of anti-equality states, with a note saying that all families should be treated equally. It’s a great idea that could have a big impact.
