The “Sugartime” episode of kids’ show Postcards from Buster is now available on the compilation Postcards from Buster – Buster’s Outdoor Journeys.
U. S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings triggered an outcry among LGBT families and allies last year when she denounced the episode, in which rabbit Buster visits a lesbian family’s maple-sugar farm. The episode isn’t about being lesbian, per se. It’s about maple-sugar farming, and happens to feature lesbian farmers. The sheer normalcy of it is what likely scared Spellings and her ilk. (“My God, they could be living next to us.”)
It’s not obvious from the front of the DVD that “Sugartime” is included, so I thought I’d pass the word along.
