Dara Torres Is Not a Lesbian

A public-service announcement for the many of you who are finding this site today after doing a search for: “Is Dara Torres a lesbian?”

Nope, she’s not. She is twice divorced from men, and now lives with David Hoffman, a reproductive endocrinologist, masters swimmer, and father of her child.

Yeah, I’m disappointed, too, but hey. She’s still an Olympic gold medalist, mom, model, and motivational speaker. We can’t expect perfection.

  1. Dara may live a heterosexual lifestyle, but whether she is truly lesbian at heart, no one will ever know but Dara herself.

  2. just because she “looks” like a lesbian, doesn’t mean she is……..and it doesn’t mean she’s harboring desires to get into Martina Moravcova’s swimsuit.

    signed,
    a gay woman

  3. ‘perfection’ defined as being a lesbian. How
perfectly heterosexist! Glad to see hate alive and well in the homosexual community.

  4. Oh, I was being flippant. I don’t really believe any sexual orientation is better than any other. Sorry you took this seriously.

  5. I can only base my assumption on what you wrote. You didn’t write, ‘I don’t believe any sexual orientation is better than any other.’ You wrote, ‘Yeah, I’m disappointed, too, but hey. She’s still an Olympic gold medalist, mom, model, and motivational speaker. We can’t expect perfection.’

If she was a lesbian, and made that public and someone stated, ‘She’s a great role model, but I’d think she was perfect if she wasn’t a lesbian.’ I hardly think the statement would be termed ‘flippant’.

  6. breeder! get a life! stop looking for something to be offended by, and recognize humor when you see it.

loved the piece dana, made me smile. Go Dara Go

  7. I thought she was a lesbian..it doesn’t matter, though, and it is nobody’s business but hers…it took me until I was 39 yrs old to come out of the closet and be who I am…anyway, go Dara!! You are an inspiration to us all…go out and get the Gold!!!

  8. Breeder, I took the statement of “perfect” as in a perfect love candidate for the lesbian writer or for a single and looking, lesbian.

Dyke, I don’t believe there are any words better stated than yours “Breeder, stop looking for something to be offended by”. Seriously how ridiculous was your comment?

And yes, if she happened to be gay, a realistic man, who knows he couldn’t get a threesome, may say she would be perfect if she were only straight, so seriously… “Stop looking for something to get offended by”!

  9. Dara is soooo much a lesbian. She has this surrogate dad for Tessa named David. Her “nanny” wink wink is taking care of Tessa. She never mentions David. She’s got the walk, the look and two failed marriages screams, “oops, I haven’t figured it out yet?” Can’t wait for this woman to come out. She’s hooking up with Martina in September. Maybe something will happen:)

I’m thoroughly confused as to why anyone would assume she was a lesbian. So far the argument seems to be, well she has two failed marriages and she looks masculine. Well I know a couple of people who have had failed marriages that are not gay, and looks certainly are not a way to define ones sexuality. I personally find it offensive that the assumption would be made.

    First why does it matter.

Secondly I believe that the implication is an insinuation that a woman that determined to succeed could not be a typical heterosexual woman. While I do not agree in anyway with their preconceptions, I do think that there are Americans out there with those views. And they are the one spouting this rumor.

Lastly, I’m sure she feels that her accomplishments are her own and that she does not need to mention her partner in every interview. Rarely have I heard a professional athlete thank their spouse after a winning moment so why it would be required here is beyond me.

  11. I am here because I googled the question… killed me to see this page!
Anyway… is it ok to say that I just got that vibe from her?
    She just has that ‘vibe’.
    Too bad :(
    ~Cheers!

  12. OK… so I may be a little disappointed that she is not a lesbian. She is still an amazing woman with a rock hard body that I would kill to have! And we can all still ‘look at the menu’ so why is there any reason to complain?!?!

  13. OK…so let’s imagine this scenario: Dara and Martina go out together for dinner and have a little too much wine. They go back to the hotel room and Martina is feeling tipsy and has to lie down and asks Dara to “help me get my clothes off” and they lie down together and Martina says her tummy hurts and Dara starts rubbing it and Martina says “mmm..that feels good” and gives her a peck. Does anyone really think Dara wouldn’t have steaming sex with her in a New York minute? I rest my case. Torres is a lesbo at heart, depite her lifestyle.

  14. I’m wondering how “Jen” knew Dara was “hooking up” with Martina in September? If they did – What happened? I’d like to know, but I don’t think we ever will. Truly, it’s none of our business, as is what Dara’s true sexuality is – although I think that if more wonderful, accomplished, inspirational people would be willing to “come out,” the more acceptance gays and lesbians would receive – by society in general.
I feel that “Natasha” is an obvious “homophobe.” Why would you “thank god” for this website’s authors “claim” – that Dara Torres is not a lesbian? (And, FYI – not all lesbians are “masculine-looking”!) Would you consider her less inspirational – if she was a lesbian, or if/when she gets the courage to face up to people like you, and “come out”?
My “gaydar” tells me that Dara is one incredible, beautiful, strong, inspirational lesbian athlete – and whether she is aware of it, or not, or willing to come out, or not, is her business.
Personally, I believe she would be even more inspirational if she did come out, so that other closeted people could be proud and inspired by her strength and courage and could stop hiding, themselves!
Either way, she is a wonderful role model for women of all ages.

  15. Homosexuals are a very bigoted group. What does a lesbian look like? They seem to have clearer stereotypes about that than us heteros do.
