Senate Fails to Move Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

The U.S. Senate today failed to move forward a defense spending bill that included provisions to repeal the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. The story is still developing, and will soon be picked apart and analyzed by better than I, so I’ll simply note that while this isn’t a parenting-specific story, it nevertheless has ramifications for gay and lesbian servicemembers who are also parents. Not to mention young lesbian and gay people who want to serve in the military.

Just breaking now is the news that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), along with Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) will introducing a free standing bill to repeal DADT today, and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) has said he will bring it up for a vote before the end of the session.

Stay tuned. . . .

  1. Oh, I DEMAND a tax refund for all the DOD dollars I’ve been paying in the system for something that does not protect me and I am not allowed to serve in. The military is supposed to be representative of the American People. I claim Taxation without representation.
