“Welcoming Schools Wednesdays” Brings Inclusive Learning to Your At-Home Time

Welcoming Schools, a project of the HRC Foundation, is now offering “Welcoming Schools Wednesdays”—a book and lesson plan for parents to use at home, based on the themes of “embracing all families, being an ally and respecting differences inclusive of LGBTQ identities.”

The first lesson is based on The Family Book by Todd Parr. If you don’t have the book, that’s fine—the lesson plan includes a link to a video of Parr reading his story out loud. It also includes discussion questions and related activities for parents and kids, adapted from Welcoming Schools’ teacher lesson plans. Follow their Facebook page to see when new lessons are posted.

Welcoming Schools has been developing such lessons for many years—and over 100,000 educators in 40 states have participated in the Welcoming Schools Professional Development Program, reaching over 10 million students. Thanks to them for making some of their wisdom available to all!
