“Rainbow Bops” Kids’ Music Album Keeps the Spirit of Pride Alive

This year’s Pride Month has ended, but a kids’ music album all about Pride—and having pride in yourself and your family—can help you keep its spirit going all year long. Watch two videos from it here.

Rainbow Bops

Rainbow Bops, from kids’ music duo AJ Pop, captures the energy and feelings of Pride with songs about family diversity, being yourself, LGBTQ heroes, and of course, Pride parades.

Many of the songs have a pedagogical bent, such as “Families,” where they sing:

No one family is better
Love is all that matters
There are many kinds of families
Some of us have two dads
Some of us have two moms
Some have one of each
Some of us have one

but the beats are infectious and it’s a fun way to learn. Other songs are simply joyous expressions of self. This is a celebratory album full of positivity, great for Pride or anytime you want a little extra pride in your life.

(My only suggestion is that while there is a song (“Be You”) that mentions nonbinary identities, it would have been great if the “Families” song mentioned nonbinary babas, maddys, or mapas (or parents and caregivers by any other names), not just moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Maybe the group can do an extended version or a remix for next Pride.)

Here are the videos for “‘Twas the Night Before Pride” (no relation to the picture book of the same name) and “Families.” Stream the rest of the album at the links here.
