Thank You — Yes, You — for an Award-Winning Twitter Party

Remember that Twitter party on LGBT Family Travel that I collaborated on with Residence Inn, Traveling Mom, and Family Equality last November? It’s just garnered Residence Inn a SMITTY Award (Social Media in Travel + Tourism) from Travel + Leisure for “Best Chat/Hangout.” If you participated, that means you deserve some of the credit for making the event the roaring success that it was.

You’re Invited: Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day Is June 2

Yes, it’s that time of year again, and you’re all invited to join me for the 9th Annual Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day! (We’ve added the “Q” this year for extra queerness.) In addition to the blogging event on Monday, June 2, I have a special treat this year: an in-person LGBTQ Families Celebration on Sunday, June 1, for anyone in the Boston area. Anyone who wants to show their support for LGBTQ families is welcome. Details after the jump.

Talk with Iron Chef Cat Cora on Wednesday

Cat Cora, chef, entrepreneur, and lesbian mom, will be on Residence Inn’s Family Travel Talk Forum this Wednesday evening to talk travel, cooking, and more. Everyone’s invited to join in and ask questions!

Tonight: Twitter Party on LGBT Family Travel

It’s tonight! Please join me from 9 to 10 p.m. EST. for a travel-focused Twitter party for LGBT families and friends. Over 600 people have preregistered for the event, and it should be a great evening of stories, tips, and fun.

Travelers’ Tales

My 10-year-old son loves to travel. I’m not sure how my spouse and I got so lucky. Perhaps it was that we started early, with a trip from the East to the West Coast to visit in-laws when he was only five weeks old. Perhaps it’s our own love of travel and the excitement we try to convey — or his innate sense of curiosity and adventure. Maybe it’s just that he can jump from one bed to the other in our hotel rooms, or stay up extra late when we go camping.

Great Prizes! Great Fun! Join Our Twitter Party on LGBT Family Travel, 11/6

If you haven’t yet registered for the travel-focused Twitter party for LGBT families on Wednesday, November 6, please do! You can just join in at 9 p.m. ET — but if you register first and then leave a tweet during the party (with the hashtags #TMOM and #RIFamily), you’ll be eligible to win one of two signed copies of Iron Chef and lesbian mom Cat Cora’s Classics with a Twist: Fresh Takes on Favorite Dishes cookbook, or the GRAND PRIZE: a Residence Inn gift card valued at $250.

You’re Invited: Twitter Party on LGBT Family Travel — November 6

My spouse and I love to travel with our son, and we’re lucky that he’s adaptable and adventurous. While most of the problems we encounter along the way are things that could happen to any family — delayed flights, lack of convenient rest stops, forgotten teddy bears — we are also very aware that LGBT-headed families may have specific concerns when on the road. I’m therefore excited to invite you to a travel-focused Twitter party for LGBT parents on November 6, sponsored by Residence Inn by Marriott in partnership with Mombian, TravelingMom, and the Family Equality Council.

Cat Cora’s Banana Yogurt Split with Berries and Coconut

Here’s the last of three recipes that Iron Chef and lesbian mom Cat Cora has created for Residence Inn by Marriott (as I explained Tuesday)—a dessert, appropriately: Banana Yogurt Split with Berries and Coconut.

Cat Cora’s Spicy Chicken, Tangerine and Shiitake Stir Fry

As I mentioned yesterday, Iron Chef and lesbian mom Cat Cora has been named “Resident Mom Of The Year 2013” by Residence Inn, and has developed three unique recipes that parents can easily create while staying at a Residence Inn (or at home). Here’s the second one: a Spicy Chicken, Tangerine and Shiitake Stir Fry. (I’m guessing it works well with tofu instead of chicken, too.)

Iron Chef (and Lesbian Mom) Cat Cora Is Residence Inn’s “Resident Mom Of The Year 2013”

Last fall, I wrote about my night at the Residence Inn, courtesy of Residence Inn by Marriott, which was reaching out to blogging parents for feedback and ideas. I mentioned the company’s LGBT friendliness—a friendliness they’ve reinforced by naming chef and lifestyle entrepreneur Cat Cora their “Resident Mom Of The Year 2013,” and by mentioning “She resides in Santa Barbara, CA, with her wife and four sons” in their press release about it. There’s more, plus a recipe by Cora, after the jump.
