10 Kids’ Biographies of Transgender People Making Their Marks on the World

To keep the celebration of Trans Awareness Week rolling, here are some great kids’ biographies of trans people and their accomplishments in politics, medicine, entertainment, activism, the military, and more! They make terrific reading all year long.

Click the images to read my reviews. For more biographies of people across the LGBTQ spectrum, filter my Database of LGBTQ Family Books by the “Biography” tag. And check out yesterday’s roundup of other recent titles for kids featuring trans characters!

While my subject for this post is trans people’s achievements in the wider world, you may also want to filter my database by the “Memoir” tag to find books by trans (and other LGBTQ) children focused on their family lives while growing up.

I’ll also note that while the books below are a good start, there are still relatively few of them. One look at the collective biography Gender Heroes is proof (as if we needed it) that there are many more trans people throughout history whose lives and accomplishments should be shared with young readers. I’d love to see more of them get dedicated biographies.

A few of the people profiled below did not use the term “transgender” to refer to themselves, but are generally considered by many who have studied them to fall under the trans umbrella.
